Miguel C. Seabra MD, PhD (ORCID https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6404-4892) is a Full Professor at Nova Medical School, UNL and Group Leader at CEDOC. M Seabra is has a long track record in vision sciences and has been the leader of a pioneering clinical trial of retinal gene therapy. Namely, M Seabra was pioneer in linking intracellular trafficking regulators and disease, with the identification of Rab27 as a key protein involved in retinal degeneration. Through the use of KO mice, M Seabra demonstrated that Rab27 plays various important roles in regulated secretion and exosome release. These mice represent the only in vivo model to study exosomes and have been widely used to confirm the physiological role of exosomes in different fields.
