Margarida Serra (Orcid: http://orcid.org/0000-0001-5013-6625) is the Head of Stem Cell Bioengineering Laboratory of iBET and Invited Auxiliary Professor at FCT-NOVA, UNL. Her research is driven by the vision to bridge engineering and stem biology, with the goal of accelerating cell-based therapies from bench to bedside. Her work has been focused on designing bioprocesses for cell therapy applications based on expertise in 3D cell culture, bioreactor technology and integrated downstream purification strategies. In particular, her group has been developed novel “nature-inspired” protocols that recreate environmental conditions excelling growth/differentiation/maturation of human stem cells (pluripotent and adult) and their derivatives (EVs including exosomes). She has been integrated “-omics” technologies as complementary tools to bioprocess understanding and optimization, and to support the assessment of cell-based products potency.
